CI5613: Testing and Assessment for Multilingual Learners

The purpose of this course is to develop awareness of and familiarity with the policies and practices used to assess the language development of multilingual students. The course examines classroom assessment practices in depth and seeks to build teacher skill in this area. Topics include: fundamental concepts in language assessment; aligning language instruction and assessment; creation of formative and summative assessments; uses and critique of standardized assessment instruments and policies; barriers to fair assessment of multilingual learners, and designing or adapting assessment tools for varying levels of language proficiency.
